SchoolSite Council Minutes-9/25/08

Meeting called to order at 2:50 p.m.

In attendance – Mari Fleming, Sheri Groenveld, Jeff Rickert,Kelly Neumeyer, Debbie Neshek, Jeanette Tudor Chuck, Danielle Waters, CherylDeLong, Kathleen Leonard, Christine Ortiz and Cindy Goldberg.

Reviewed the minutes from the meeting held on June 9, 2008 –minutes were approved.

Principals Report Jeff Rickert-

Reviewed Star Scores- University achieved an877 score. 85% of 5th graders scored in advanced or proficientlevels in Science. Mr. Rickert to forward to our council the power point onStar Testing and API scores.

Parent Conferences are coming up in thenear future.   

50 less kids due to early transfer anddeclining enrollment.

Good start to the year, Back to SchoolNight and Back to School Barbecue both went very well.

Discussed the PTA$100 suggested donation. More to be discussed at next PTAmeeting.

 

District Advisory Report (DAC) – Kathleen Leonard-   

  • ReviewedSummer School for 2008.  Elementaryhad 90% attendance.  Elementary had2 traditional programs and 1 for special needs.   The Secondary program was held atSequoia and Newbury Park H.S. A new program for incoming 6thgraders was held in August to help the transition to middle school whichwas a state funded program. The Summer School program for 2009 is yet tobe determined due to the state funding issues.
  • Revieweddifferences between Magnet and Charter Schools. A magnetschool is planned for the Manzanita school site (E.A.R.T.H.S.).

GATE District Advisory Report– Cindy Goldberg-

125 individual assessments were completed inSeptember of this year.  Of the 607 GATEidentified children, 125 were given an individual assessment. GATE Plan to bewritten for University, Ms. Laneis the GATE advisor.

New Business-

School Transition – steering committee has met once andthe 3 Principals have met 3 times to plan for the transition to the newschools. 

There will be a division of all kidsand staff into houses- Phoenix,Pegasus, Hercules, Orion.  All Houseswill have a color associated with the house.

Reviewed Block Grant Information 08-09(see separate hand-out)-

  • Motionmade to make available $5,000 for instructional supplies and $2,000 fortechnology from the One-Time Discretionary Block Grant for use in the2008-09 school year.   Motion approved.
  • Motionmade to make available $1,000 for our Music Program from the On-going Artsand Music Block Grant for use in the 2008-09 school year. Motion approved.
  • Motionmade to make available $2,000 for educational technology and $1,500 forlibrary materials and books from the One-Time Instructional and LibraryMaterials and Ed. Tech. Grant for use in the 2008-09 school year.  Motion approved.
  • Motionmade to make available $3,000 for arts and music supplies and $2,000 forP.E. equipment from the One-Tim Arts, Music, and Physical Ed. EquipmentGrant for use in the 2008-09 school year.  Motion approved.

Reviewed School Improvement PlanExpenditures for08-09 school year (see separate hand-out). This is an estimation to befinalized once the state budget is final. Guided study is for the upper grades to allow lower class size in socialstudies and science. 

Motion made to approve an estimatedexpenditure amount of $22,940 for the 08-09 school years.  Motionapproved.
